The Beauty of My Wife (The Middle)

So I left off last night at graduation from boot camp. She has been my angel ever since.

After boot camp I had 10 days of whats called boot leave. 10 days at home. I was fortunate enough to be able to get an additional 14 days of recruiters assistance. 14 days of helping out my recruiter. Since I was gone during Christmas, my family had a Christmas just for me. I remember it so much because the entire I kept wondering if I was dreaming, but every time I saw her I couldn't help but smile. She looked amazing. Also because of this extra time I was able to be home for Valentine's day. Something that always bothered me about my wife is that she didn't seem to make a big deal about certain holidays. Now I agree that Valentine's day isn't big, but it is when I haven't been home in months and I have an excuse to spoil her. ;-) She took me to my first lacrosse game. The Colorado Mammoth. Good game. I think we lost, but afterward is where I got to have my fun. We went to the Cheesecake Factory. While we were there waiting in line to eat, I gave her her gift. It was a necklace from Jared's. Now the commercials have been for a long time "He went to Jared's", so we sent out a message to people and put it on facebook that I had gone to Jared's. Not saying that I got her a necklace but just that I went there. See it isn't uncommon for people to come home from boot camp and propose to their girlfriends. As much as I wanted to, it was way to early. I couldn't tell you what happened the rest of the night. All I know is that it was great.

MCT is the worst place to be when trying to develop a relationship. Its another month of boot camp but you get to have a cell phone. So like the Army basic training. They call it Basic Combat Training, I am not sure what combat zone we are in that anyone gets cell phone service. Trying to go from talking to her to doing what I had to do was terrible. When doing my training I had to be in the zone. Trying to get out of the zone, and be myself was difficult. It took me I think till MOS training that I finally found the balance. Maybe not even then. Anyways, she was magnificent during this. She still stood by my arrogant, cocky ass and loved me all the same. After that I went to Pensacola, Fl. Wrong place. It was a nice little week long vacation that was given to me by the Marine Corps. After that I went to hell on earth. 29 Palms, Ca. Hot as hell. Surrounded by nothing. But the beautiful thing about it was the fact that on my way from one coast to the other I was had to stop in Denver. Kate found her way through security and met me at the gate. It was the greatest birthday gift I ever had. (Its on April 7th.)

I got there on April 1st. My brothers wedding was on the 10th. I asked multiple times, if I'd be able to go and some people said yes while others said no. I wasn't able to go. She was pissed. It was the first time we had ever had to deal with the "Mistress" of the Marines. I felt terrible for more than the fact that I couldn't go and this was the second of my brothers weddings that I was going to miss, but also because I couldn't see Kate. I know it hadn't been long since I saw her last but I had fallen hard for her and I wanted to spend any time I could with her. As I went through Comm School, we learned that our best friend was going to Skype. I was able to call her everyday and see her face every night. Without that I would have lost it. It was such an aggravating time for me. Time went by and I was there waiting to pick up class. During June I went back home to go on Recruiter's Assistance because it was going to be a while before I picked up. During that time I asked her a couple times if she would marry me, not this minute but if she had even considered it. Well as time went by we began talking about it.  We were watching a movie one night and my wife decided that she wanted popcorn. So I went down made the popcorn and on my way up got an old engagement ring from my mom. (We had previously talked about it) I stuck the ring in the popcorn and went back to my wife. We were eating popcorn and after a while I began to wonder why she hadn't pulled it out yet. I knew I had felt it a couple times but what the hell? Well as we got down to the bottom of the bad she finally pulled it out. Her exact words? "What the f***?" ha ha. Now here is were the debate starts. On whether or not I actually said "Will you marry me?". Now I think I said it, but she says I didn't. But she still said Yes. I had to go back to Comm School not soon after that. On Columbus Day that year she came out to see her birth mom and I went with her. The first time I had ever met that part of the family and it was a blast. I was able to spend the weekend with her and it was a great weekend. I think it was memorial day weekend that I went home for the weekend. While I was there she tried to kill me. Well after my mom did. Just kidding. Sort of. Maybe it was my dad that tried to kill me. Anyways the story is that my mom is an interior designer. Really good but she has the habit of leaving random things around the house. Well while I was home she had left a pane of glass against a wall. Well the night before I was to go back I kicked it and sliced open the webbing between my toes. Deep. Well my wife took me to the hospital and I had to get stitches. Apparently I am very resistant to pain meds. They gave me over 4 shots of a local antistatic and I still felt them stitch up my foot and it hurt like hell. The wife was pissed cause I wouldn't hold her hand while they did it. I just grabbed tight to the gurney and yelled. Well the gave me good meds afterward, percoset. I took some that night and was doing alright. Well I was about to leave for the airport to head back when my dad woke me up and told my wife to give me another pill just so I was good for the trip. I never made it. On the way there I started to feel, out of it and sick. As my wife was driving me there I started to get sick and I told her to pull over. After I threw up a couple times she asked if I was ok. I said no and told her to go back home. We went back home and called everyone that I could to see if I could take a later flight the next day and just be late. No one answered so we just took the first flight I could the next day. I don't remember anything past throwing up but the story is that I was talking in my sleep, waking up and falling back asleep. She was there the whole night taking care of me cause in my stuper I told her not to go. Why would I? She is amazing.

I graduated from there in Nov. and went to my unit in Camp Pendleton. I wasn't able to go home for Thanksgiving, no biggie there, but I was able to have her come out for the unit Christmas party and then the both of us flew back for Christmas leave. Great Christmas. Before I was able to leave I had to get an apartment because of my son. Well a couple months after I got back I moved all my stuff in an awesome road trip with my wife. It was fun driving a massive uhaul across half the country. We spent a couple days there and then she had to go back. She herself moved less than 3 weeks later.
